To Blur Or Not To Blur?

I've been hearing from a lot of you lately, both here on the blog and privately by email, about your concerns for the safety of BBA's new models from Jamaica. After a lot of serious consideration, I've decided to heed your advice by blurring out Deno's face on the blog and in the free preview areas of my site.

In general, however, I am trying to move *away* from blurring out the models' faces. At the end of the day, I'm running a BUSINESS that depends on new and recurring website subscriptions to keep things running and ensure BBA's continued existence.

I've learned the hard way that hiding models' faces in the free preview areas of my site just isn't a successful or sustainable business model. It's hard enough surviving as an amateur studio in this industry, having to compete with all the free porn saturating the Internet, or people STEALING and then illegally sharing BBA's videos with thousands of other people for free on other sites (you know who you are!). Very few web surfers are going to PAY to join a membership website just from taking the producer at his word that the models inside are attractive and worth paying to see, LOL! I know I wouldn't pay to join such a porn site, would you?!?

All of the guys in my videos - including the new guys from Jamaica - are consenting adults being paid to do a job. They know their videos will be published on a gay website and possibly even on DVD, and seen by a large public audience. They are required to read and sign a legal contract before any of their clothes come off, and in most cases they are even warned about the exposure and harassment that other models have faced!

And while I still sympathize with the guys who later have to deal with the gossip, ridicule, judgment, anger, and even threats of violence from homophobic family members and so-called "friends," I no longer take down scenes or hide a guy's face every time a model experiences regrets about doing porn and asks me to take down his scenes. Like another blog reader recently observed, it's unfair to me as a businessman and employer for these guys to expect the cash reward without the exposure.

I'll be honest, I am a colder, more cynical person than I was even just one year ago. I've learned a lot of tough lessons over the past year in particular, including the lesson that many of you tried to warn me about from the very beginning - that BBA's survival and success requires me to be "heartless" to a certain extent, or at least not let my emotions get involved to the point that they overwhelm and compromise my business decisions. With that in mind, I've chosen not to blur out the faces of new models like
Rico, Diego, or Easy, and I'm in the process of un-blurring some of the other models.

From the very beginning, however, I have always tried to listen with an open mind to the advice, opinions, and requests of BBA's viewers and fans. And enough of you have expressed concerns about the safety and well-being of the Jamaican models that it really forced me to sit down and re-evaluate whether taking the same hard-lined approach with these guys from Jamaica is the right thing to do.

Considering Jamaica's reputation for extreme hatred and violence against gay and bisexual people, I've decided to blur out Deno's face in the free preview section of the site. I've decided not to do the same thing for
Diondre, however, since his appearance on BBA is limited (at least so far) to a strictly *solo* scene. Deno's scene, on the other hand, goes slightly beyond the standard solo audition, plus we're in the process of trying to get him to do more .

Thanks for your helpful advice and compassionate concern for BBA's models, and please let me know if you have any questions about this decision!

Also, if you're a BBA member who's already watched and enjoyed Deno's freaky audition, please be sure to leave a comment here on the blog so that the people who might be on the fence about joining BBA due to the newly blurred-out preview can be assured that it's a scene worth watching !
