Too Gay or Not Too Gay, That Is The Question…

Cory Seduces Isaiah

The whole “Gay For Pay” concept is a lot like climate change. Denying its existence doesn’t make it any less real 😛 .

Now of course there are about a thousand different shades of gray between 100% Gay and 100% Straight, and I realize that part of the fun for many viewers is trying to figure out where each new model lands on that spectrum, and/or watching with surprise and excitement as each model explores and evolves and in some cases even changes positions on that spectrum over time.

If nothing else, BBA has certainly proven just how complex, contradictory, and dare I say even “corruptible” human sexuality can be.

But I do think an important distinction needs to be made between sexual ACTS vs. sexual ORIENTATION. They are not always necessarily one and the same thing! And it’s sometimes frustrating to hear gay viewers leveling the same accusations against BBA’s “gay for pay” models that they already hear enough from homophobic family and friends if and when their scenes are discovered. Namely, that they are “gay” simply because they’re on a gay website doing gay things.

Sexual orientation should be defined by one’s desires and behavior in everyday life, not sexual acts performed for entertainment purposes in exchange for large sums of money. Under the right circumstances, I could theoretically pop some Viagra, watch gay porn on my phone, and have “straight for pay” sex with a female. But that wouldn’t make me any less gay! In the same way that I know from FIRSTHAND EXPERIENCE that regardless of whether viewers want to believe it or not, some of these guys doing “gay for pay” porn are in fact STRAIGHT in their “real,” everyday lives.

Saint Fucks Apollo

Now this is where the question of authenticity comes into play, and the recent complaints from some viewers about what they perceive as “over-acting” by some of the models. I do realize that I’m partly to blame for muddying these already murky waters by introducing an element of “acting” into the mix over the past couple years.

To better understand the context for this, just browse through this blog’s archives and take a look at some of the feedback to the earliest scenes from models like Stephon and Isaiah. You’ll find countless complaints, some quite hostile and rude, about the guys being too stiff, boring, reluctant, emotionless, corpse-like, etc. Which is why it’s both frustrating and amusing to see some of these very same people now complaining about the same models being *TOO* passionate, energetic, “gay,” etc.

With the notable exceptions of anomalies like Saint and Apollo, straight guys doing “gay for pay” porn are simply NEVER going to perform like your favorite gay “porn stars.” They will always fall somewhere on the spectrum between the extremes of “too boring” vs. “too fake.”

I’ll admit, my own feelings on this subject are somewhat conflicted. In BBA’s early years, I was much more of a “purist” who prided myself on keeping things 100% authentic and unscripted, even if that meant showing the straight guys practically breaking down into tears and/or reaching for the wastebasket to throw up, LOL.

And while authentic “reality porn” is still very much what the BBA brand’s all about, I have definitely responded to pressure from viewers and compromised on this approach somewhat over time. For those of you wanting a little more clarity on my present-day approach, it usually follows this pattern:

bba_blessedbybandit_blog3

In a straight model’s EARLY scenes, I try to keep things as natural and authentic as possible. I encourage the models to be themselves and show their honest reactions, even if that means coming across as reluctant, quiet, awkward, and tense to the point of being uncomfortable for some viewers to watch. I show them watching straight porn on their phones as they get their dicks sucked and/or try to fuck a guy’s ass for the very first time.

As the model gets more experience under his belt, however, I will usually start editing the phones out of the scenes and coaching the guys to be more energetic and expressive, even if that means saying things they wouldn’t normally say or faking an enthusiasm for gay sex they don’t necessarily feel. (Saint and Apollo have both mastered this unique art to the point where the lines are so blurred that even I don’t always know where the acting stops and reality begins, LOL).

Like any good director or coach, it’s part of my job to help these guys evolve and improve at their craft, including acting out the fantasy of them being gay that so many gay viewers insist they most want to see.

And to be honest, there’s a part of me that is just as turned on by watching a hot straight basketball player like Isaiah grunting in his deep, sexy voice for another guy to “fuck that ass,” even if he doesn’t entirely mean it, as I am by watching him stiffly surrender to a good pounding in stoic silence. Which probably explains why BBA’s scenes have tended to go back and forth between these extremes so much in recent years.

I would love to hear from some of the gay-for-pay models themselves on this topic, although I recognize how unlikely that is to happen. I would love to hear from them directly on how they’ve evolved over time, the mental challenges (if any) they’ve had to overcome, what was on their minds as they did scenes, and how they conduct their lives and perceive themselves when they aren’t making videos. Does the fact that they’re getting paid to do this, give them a convenient excuse to use to deny real gay feelings, or does it cause them to feel exploited or conflicted for doing things against their true nature just for the money? Mike, you have the producer’s perspective, but the guys are the ones actually living through this?

You and I are in the same place on this. Like I said on the site, this is forever out there for all to see. There are photos all over the place, and clips too.

Erickson25: As a general rule, I try to avoid censoring blog comments as much as possible. But I’m not going to publish comments that deliberately try to stir up drama by gossiping about the models’ private lives in a disparaging way, or patronizingly lecturing the models in an apparent effort to warn/scare them away from working with me.

Most of your concerns have already been addressed in the following post:

        http://blog.blackboyaddictionz.com/the-real-dark-side-of-gay-porn/

Last I checked, porn is a legitimate and LEGAL form of entertainment created by CONSENTING ADULTS. If you personally think it’s shameful, degrading, embarrassing, destructive, etc., then that’s YOUR problem and not the models’ or mine.

If you’re TRULY concerned about the models’ mental health and well-being, then perhaps you should start a charity to rescue these naive, helpless “victims” of the gay adult industry (as you so condescendingly seem to perceive them) rather than routinely jacking off to their scenes and then judging them for their choices after the fact.

Based on your previous comments on the website and blog, I can’t help but wonder if you’d be just as “concerned” if this site’s overall themes were more in keeping with yours. In other words, if I wasn’t constantly “compromising” your beloved straight boys and “tops” that you wish to see remain “pure,” LOL.

Like I recently posted on the BBA Tumblr in response to an anonymous message that could have very well been submitted by you, nothing amuses me more than self-righteous, hypocritical “bottoms” who don’t have a problem with hung straight guys going “gay for pay” until we start doing what most studios never even dare to try by pursuing the ULTIMATE prize of their tight, virgin asses. Then all of a sudden what we’re doing is “sad,” “wrong,” disgusting, exploitative, etc., LOL.

I’m not sure how many more ways I can say this, but BBA is NOT the right website for you! But since you apparently have a masochistic side that keeps you sticking around, at least do me a favor and spare me and the models your judgemental lectures from now on. Thanks!

      Harlembrotha and Chris:

I hear what you guys are saying and like I said on the BBA Tumblr awhile back, I like the idea of getting a bunch of the “gay for pay” guys together for a kind of BBA reunion. We can get Andy Cohen to host (he’s actually from Saint Louis), and it’ll be like a “Real Housewives” reunion, just with lots of sucking and fucking instead of cursing and fighting, LOL.

Until that happens, though, I’d recommend watching what’s already up on the website more carefully, because what you’re asking for is already there to a certain extent. I’ve always tried my best to get the guys to share their honest reactions and feelings about their experiences through the in-depth interviews at the start and end of the scenes.

For example, that conversation between Saint and Apollo by the river at the start of their first scene together (before Saint chases the geese) offers a hilarious and fascinating glimpse into Saint’s attitudes about his sexuality and choice to continue doing “gay for pay” porn, from his unique perspective as a veteran performer stepping back and looking at his already sizable and still growing body of work. (It would be interesting to go back and compare that to his comments at the end of his earlier scenes). And that’s just one example out of MANY scattered throughout the scenes already up on the site.

But you’re right, getting several of the guys together in a room at the same time to discuss their thoughts and experiences with each other could be both entertaining and illuminating for sure!

Regardless of where you may stand on this, I am just happy to say that without a doubt, BBA is still the most unique and fresh urban gay porn out there. The GENUINE “gay for pay” aspect is a large part of that.

Continue doing what you have been doing, it works for me. The work you have been putting out in the last two years I enjoy more so than the early years. I for one understand fully what you are trying to do. You can turn the world upside down and you can’t please all the people all the time. Keep up the good work Mike.

Well said Michael. I think the brand you established all those years ago remains the reason why BBA has become a very popular amateur site. We recognize that getting mid-western and southern guys on camera to perform acts with the same sex is a process that none of us will understand unless we have produced, directed, or starred in such films. On behalf of “Adam and Steve the Rules for Men Attracted to Other Men,” we say your contribution to the porn industry is profound. Keep pushing the boundaries . #Isupportthewholething

Mike I been posting all along, not using your word (anomalies) concerning Apollo, I also can see that in Saint as well too. What I’ve stated was that it’s hard to tell whether Apollo is performing/natural or a little of both. After the Apollo/Isaiah scene you may want to place Isaiah in that category. I believe Apollo brought out of him something no other model was able to accomplish. When I heard that deep voice of Isaiah when Apollo say “this ass is so good” “if it’s good, then fuck this ass” he had arrived. The competition between these two was like two Titans with something to prove. This was your best work yet, so don’t let the haters discourage you. Continue putting out quality work and I’ll keep watching.

I’m not sure how you do it and I’m positive the straight guys are clueless but you have a unique brand so just stop all the analyzing and keep bringing great scenes. If Bandit takes one for the team I’m just gonna say “fuck it” and get a lifetime membership lol.

LOL @ “stop all the analyzing.” I spent most of my pre-porn life in academia, so I guess it’s just in my DNA to (over)analyze 😉 .

I do think it’s useful for me to step back every so often to analyze, articulate, and sometimes even modify or defend BBA’s overall brand, for myself as much as for BBA’s viewers. Stepping back to look at the forest instead of just the individual trees, I guess you could say.

As far as Bandit “taking one for the team” is concerned, I’m going to hold you to that if/when that time cums 😛 !

Hello Mike, I am a little unique in that I have never been a fan of the acting, sometimes it seems a little fake. I am kind of like whatever when you make the guys say I like this dick and all the other tell me you like it stuff. I love to see the natural reaction of the straight guys, whatever it is (most of the time) without all the other stuff. That is just me. I love to see those boundaries get crossed. This however is just me, I do like the site and I always look forward to the updates to see what you are going to do. I would still love to see AB take dick from someone like Suspense or someone else with a really big dick that will give him a pounding. In that one I don’t want to see acting I want to see the real reaction.

I know what you mean, and I used to feel the same way. But with certain models, total authenticity without any acting whatsoever would be like watching paint dry.

Isaiah’s the most obvious example that comes to mind. Watching his stiff reluctance and stoic “deer in the headlights” endurance was entertaining and hot as hell in his earlier scenes, but eventually grew frustrating and boring for many viewers after awhile.

Even after he took the leap and tried bottoming, some element of acting became necessary in order to keep his scenes interesting and hot. As you can tell from his first couple bottoming scenes, his NATURAL reaction is to just lie there almost lifeless and take the pounding with barely a sound.

But by encouraging him to become more verbal and interactive, even if it’s not always sincere, I personally think he’s evolved into a much more interesting and exciting performer, and delivered some of BBA’s hottest and most popular scenes as a result.

I fully agree with you Mike, watching this brother evolve to where I saw him perform with Apollo is one of the most unique evolution I seen take place on BBA. Not sure how much he was acting with Apollo, but if he was he to me made it seem more real, he came off as sincere, he stated himself it was painful at first, but he come to enjoy it. His facial expressions were relaxed, his moaning seemed to be sincere. And yes even the personality has evolved, more verbal, smiling more. The brother was just more interesting and exciting with Apollo, whether he simply felt more comfortable with him than with any other model in the past. Only Isaiah can say for sure, I for one love the new Isaiah more so.

In my opinion it depends on the model and the scene. Saint probably acts more into it than he really is, but his dick mostly goes along with it so it’s convincing. It’s when they’re acting like they’re really into it but their dick is soft and their acting is bad that it becomes awkward to watch. Apollo can just about get away with it and he’s been acting from the start. Ross is convincing so far. Isaiah isn’t as good an actor, and he was hotter when he stayed more real, especially as his dick got hard on occasion anyway, like during foreplay and bottoming (to Saint) and that was really hot.

Like I say, it depends if the model can pull it off or not. I prefer as realistic as possible, otherwise I’d just watch free gay porn.

What I want to know is, have you ever encounter guys not looking at your ads to do these type of things and you actually approach guys into doing the “gay for pay” stuff?

This was a nice read on your way of doing the scenes with these models. We appreciate you putting out the content and the hard work it takes to make the scenes, even if some flop or not.

I’m not sure I understand your question, but if you’re asking if I ONLY work with guys who come to me through online ads, the answer is no, I find new models in a variety of ways. Even the online ads are pretty generic and don’t usually mention the “gay for pay” theme from the start, as that would likely scare away the types of guys I most want to attract.

I am normally a reader and not a poster in this forum however I just had to respond to this gay for pay thing. I don’t believe a true straight man would either give or receive head from another man, or evolve over time into taking or giving dick up the ass. Lets put the fantasy aside and be real. I look at it for what it is either gay, bisexual, tri-sexual, hustler. No real straight man; I repeat No real straight man would compromise his principals to appear in gay porn videos for pay. No matter how much someone screams I am straight; once a man lays down to have sex with another man weather it’s real or for pay you give up the straight card and its time to find another classification for yourself and its not straight. BTW I am gay and enjoy all the gay (oops I mean gay for pay) performers on the site. Just my 2 cents.

According to your same logic, a gay man who gets a drunken blowjob from a girl at a party, or fucks a lonely female friend out of sympathy or boredom, is no longer gay? Or a straight sorority girl who makes out with a female friend as part of a dare is no longer straight?

Sexual orientation should be defined by one’s desires and attraction in everyday life, not individual sexual acts at any given moment. It sounds like this is where we fundamentally disagree.

Ultimately, whether you and others choose to believe it or not doesn’t make the reality of “gay for pay” any less real. Throughout human history, there always have been and always will be legitimately “straight” men who choose to participate in gay sex acts for money, favors, power, etc., whether it be in porn, prostitution, prison, etc.

I agree with you CHARLES, that’s my personal views on that subject matter. A straight guy will remain as straight no matter what. An example is No. 1… I can attest that No. 1 isn’t 100% straight… No. 1 can be bi and “too gay”… just a thought.

Well, seeing as how my rant was deleted… LOL It’s fine because it did run long. But I am more focused now, and hopefully Mike will give me a pass on this one…. @Charles and @J Wilf; you guys are 100% correct. I had the opportunity to meet a “gay for pay” porn star some years ago. I can tell you his perspective, but I believe that was one of the reasons Mike deleted my novel.

You guys would be familiar with his work if you watched a lot of porn in the mid 2000’s to 2010. Off camera, he really comes off as a regular heterosexual male and if he told you he did porn, you would go str8 to the str8 porn to see his work.

Ironically, he told me a lot (even referencing this site [he is not a model on this site]). He’s 36 now, and has 2 daughters. He said it himself, that he wishes he made better choices with his life. He would be compared to Saint, but not as talkative.

He told me that he wanted his “normal life” back. Everywhere he went, someone noticed him bi, gay or trans, and even men who like on this site, “claim they are str8.” He told me that the money was the only reason he did it back then, and the more he filmed, it seemed like the longer the filming would take, and next thing he knew he was take’n dick.

He said with all the preparation for the scenes, there is no way any str8 man with a strong mind could ever continue doing something like that. He came from a broken home, went through the system with his sister, and was very impressionable as an 18 year old high school drop out. The last time we spoke about three years ago, he’s doing better, he’d rather work a regular 9-5 than to film again, but he still does escort services to support his kids too. He told me, since he just identifies himself as bi, he’s been doing better with the ladies, and not really dealing much with men unless the girl is cool with him doing it.

Did you actually read my response to your earlier comment? I clearly explained my reasons for deleting your post and they had nothing to do with its length or the sad stories about your ex-“porn star” friend.

I have never claimed that every porn performer claiming to be “straight” or “gay for pay” is telling the truth. There are tons of fake “straight bait” sites and imposters out there. Even among the BBA models who claim to be straight, there are countless varieties and types along a complex sexuality spectrum (an idea I’ve been planning to explore further in a future blog post).

All I’m saying is that just because SOME guys might be in denial or lying doesn’t mean that’s always the case. With all due respect, I have worked with over 100 models across a span of eight years and regardless of whether you and others choose to believe it or not, some of these guys are legitimately, authentically heterosexual when it comes to their everyday sexual orientations.

THANKS MIKE, Finally!!! LOL.. Ok cool. For the record I did read your post, but you kept deleting and I had to keep starting over (nevertheless). I don’t believe, that your site is fake at all. BUT, you know that we have observations (some stronger than others). This is a site where these “types” of guys can have their cake, and eat it too (literally). Lucky for them huh, and an added bonus, it’s taped and they get $$$$.@@ cash or in a check. Go figure.

The guys that are legitimately, authentically heterosexual, are the ones that only have a solo scene, only worked with the lovely young lady, and the few that you’ve been with that we never saw again. I, like a few others, would love to at least hear what the “str8” models have to say, but I’m sure that’s never going to happen, because they don’t owe us an explanation. And it would be a bunch of “Yo man, chill wit that gay shit” , “I an’t gay homie, and if I catch you in the streets…” “You mad cause you an’t get’n this paper”, “Go to hell”, “Fu*K U”, “I get pussy all the time” etc etc. Plus that would take too much time out of the already lengthy scenes.

Gossip about the models personal lives? That too must have been someone else, because, my opinions are no different that some others. I did, hope that some did their thing, and moved on with their lives. I do admit to that, and I wished them well on top of that. But to no surprise, a few came back. Three of whom I mentioned; there was nothing gossipy about what I had to say at all. I addressed a serious up and coming issue. Don’t make accusations out of frustration when you aren’t sure. I do banter with the other fans, and that’s all it is. Relax.

You made it clear that this “Blog” was where you wanted me to “express”, so I am, but I guess it has to be to your terms. (I can’t read your mind) By the way I don’t use Tumblr, so that’s someone else you need to address… As far as a charity, man, you really know how to lay it on thick. SMH… Hey, Keep calm, your models aren’t going anywhere and you know it. You will continue to get requests from, and be able to recruit with ease, so getting all bent out of shape isn’t worth it. Let it roll off your back as you roll to the bank and collect and pay out… Yes, their mindsets are something I think about too, especially after meeting one (again not from BBA). The exploitation is really on BOTH ends of the spectrum… Roll a good blunt and think about that one.

I am also well aware that porn is legal, and like most of your guys, I was exposed to it FAR too young. So, when I hear that, I get defensive for them. Excuse the hell out of me.

We have never spoke, and do not have that type of relationship to where you can read my tones, when I type them. I apologize that you took a lot of what I had to say personally, or out of context. But at the end of the day, your site is still growing and it seems it will be here longer than others. Oh, but that idea about the “str8” guys speaking to the fans… That was inspired by an idea Saint had, Chris^^^ just confirmed. It would be cool, if they are down for whatever… Truthfully they are, or they wouldn’t be on here “forcing” themselves to have male to male sex.

If you must know my thing with tops going verse. I’ll put that on the sexuality spectrum post. Great topic though.

Some of these guys watch too much tv, not all straight guys lash out to gay guys with “yo chill with that gay xxx” that’s tv not real life. We’ve kissed because some sorority chicks bet us to. Do I want to marry that frat bro. No

@Erickson25 If you feel so strongly about your views concerning straight men doing gay for pay porn why have you not found a new porn site more to your liking? Viewing from your many posts, there is more involved, though I can read between the lines. You seem to be ok with the str8/tops fucking other guys, but then when they decide to bottom you are so through with them. You make an issue out of how Mike continue to label them str8 models, who cares other than you and a few others. The majority of viewers are on here to get a nut, we could care less whether Mike call them straight/bi/gay/dl, whether they top/bottom. Why is this such an issue with you, you speak with such anger for those that may bottom, and even more angrily at any str8 guy that have bottomed. There are thousands of sites out there and you continue a member of this filthy site, why.

Masculine dudes and a “top” while one is feminine and “versatile.” The two masculine dudes offered services that I agreed while the other one … I rejected because the dude is “too gay” in person to me. Among the two masculine dudes, one is a 100% total top but the other one can do oral … I can compare the 100% total top to JULIEN and the other dude to CAESAR. We did “oral only” session … ’twas a humbled experience.

@Shorty: A str8 man that “succumbs” once to a gay man, and goes back to women, he isn’t bi. When a str8 man goes back multiple times having full on sex (top, bottom, or verse) with or without breaks in between, he is no longer str8, period. When a str8 man becomes an escort for men, and has full on sex with men, he is no longer str8. No str8 man will have sex on a Regular, or Intermediate level with men pay or no pay. So in these cases, they are Bi. The amount of work that has to be done to just prepare for these scenes (especially for verse/btm)… come on… No labels just what it is black and white. Someone told me when I was a teenager, “we are all gay at some point, but its when you start and continue the acts, is when you become the sub categories.”

Something wrong with your stand on human sexuality too. Being “bisexual or gay” does not make them any less a “real man” than a heterosexual man. Maybe you consider yourself not a “real man”, but where is your authority to define who or what a real man is. Try telling a DL guy he’s not a real man.

You mean that APOLLO is really a “real man?”? I don’t care if No. 1 wants to do “versatile” roles … that’s fine with me. No. 1 deserved it.?

I mean all straight, gay, bi Men stated in your post. If you chose to focus of Apollo, which you have been doing for the last 5 months, then yes I mean Apollo as well as all other BBA models that don’t meet your standard of human sexuality. If you don’t care, why have you spent every post on your veiled (disguised) enlightenment.

Really cocopop? Again, with the stirring… 1st you don’t have to tell a DL man anything about being less than a man, because HE ALREADY KNOWS AND FEELS IT, HENCE HE’S D L!!!! 2nd Apollo has been the talk for the past 5 months because he made himself the talk for the past 5 months… So 3rd. Get get over it.

What JoWilf is saying basically (Correct me if I’m misinterpreting) is that a Man shouldn’t have to hide behind anything, much less, money, to be who he is. You can’t man up like Saint/Julien/Blake and say what it is, what you are and what you do, then you an’t shit. Now if Saint has made the decision that he doesn’t want to tell his female’s what he does, he then becomes less than a man, cause he chooses to hide the fact that he enjoy’s the spoils of fuck’n dudes raw in the ass, take’n raw dick and drink’n cum. If it bothers him that much then he needs to “do something” about his situation like a MAN would, so he won’t have to rely on this to make an income. What “real man” hides in front of a camera to the world, and then uses an excuse of a couple of thousand dollars…??? The label str8 no longer applies to any guy on here that has multiple scenes and still coming back (Yes, that includes my “precious” Ross too). They are no more str8 than Bruce Jenner is a female. And before you get into that, Bruce and every trans gender MALE’s bone structures and DNA will always read MALE, no matter how many surgeries and hormones treatments they have.

The respect that I have for Saint/Julien/Blake is mainly around their acceptance as well.. I may not care too much for Julien, and Blake, but they are real men in comparison. The “moral compass” falls on the deception to the unsuspecting women. That may even be a turn on for these formerly straight guys, but they will learn soon enough, and we’d be on new topics and models just the same.

Mike, I have been following you since you were selling DVDs via AEBN. I bought a few of them crappy shits and still have them. Your work has progressed tremendously and has now propelled you into the cream. I wasn’t sure if you were a good guy at first but I’m sure these guys wouldn’t keep coming back if you didn’t make them feel comfortable and didn’t well compensate them. In fact you went from being creepy to being “My Hero” over the last 6 – 7 years. Keep having fun man. I want to see you personally fuck each and every one of them.
    Sincerely,
Damon Deuxdeuxdish (Yes that Damon Deuxdeuxdish for those of you who know me from BGC.)
